MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05
      Title: Berry Whirligig
      Yield: 9 Servings
    1/2 c  Sugar
      2 tb Cornstarch
    1/2 ts Salt
    1/4 ts Cinnamon
      1 c  Water
      3 c  Blackberries or a mixture
           .. of berries

      1 c  Flour
      2 ts Baking powder
    1/2 ts Salt
      2 tb Shortening
      1    Egg; lightly beaten
      2 tb Milk
    1/4 c  Butter; softened
    1/2 c  Sugar
      1 ts Grated lemon peel
    1/4 ts Cinnamon
  Preheat oven to 400. Grease an 8" square baking
  Mix sugar, cornstarch, salt, cinnamon and water;
  bring to a boil and cook until mixture thickens.
  Stir in berries; cook another 5 minutes. Transfer
  to baking pan.
  Mix flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl; cut
  in shortening to make coarse crumbs. Mix egg and
  milk; add to flour mixture to make a smooth dough.
  Knead several minutes. Roll out to a 12x8"
  rectangle; spread with butter. Mix sugar, lemon
  peel and cinnamon; sprinkle on dough. Roll up
  starting with long end; seal edges. Cut into 9
  slices; place over berries. Bake 22 to 25 minutes,
  or until golden brown.
